    Samal dive fest: exploring Samal Island’s diving sites

    The first Samal Dive Festival's fun diving activity proved to be success with around 70 scuba divers, both local and foreign dive enthusiasts from Manila and other parts of Mindanao, participating in the event last May 28 to 29, 2022. The divers, with licenses ranging from open water certification, advanced open water divers, dive masters, and rescue divers, explored Samal Island's emerging dive sites, such as Marissa 3 and Captains One Way, on the first day of the festival. They were also introduced to new dive sites, including Ligid Dako and Aundanao on the second day.

    The Manila Bay crisis

    The recent photos taken of Manila Bay showed the beautiful sunset and happy people strolling by the bay and a few even bold enough to take a dip in the seemingly clean waters. But the real clean up hasn’t even started. Let’s not get too excited over this initial feat. There’s still a lot of work to be done. Remember Manila Bay waters is worst than Boracay.

    46 fall in illegal fishing crackdown in Cavite

    Fory-six fishermen onboard two fishing boats were rounded up in a recent illegal fishing crackdown in Cavite, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Friday. The fishermen were caught fishing off Puerto Azul, Ternate, Cavite using an illegal fishing method called “Danish Seine” or locally known as “hulbot-hulbot”. According to the Coast Guard, “Danish Seine” is a fishing method often used in commercial fishing which is strictly banned in the Philippine waters because of its tendency to destroy and damage the coral reefs, sea grass beds, and other marine life habitats pursuant to Section 92 of Republic Act 8550 (The Fisheries Code of the Philippines).
