- 3 nabbed for illegal fishingAmoroso, Ed (Philippine Star Printing Co., Inc., 2025-01-25)Three fishermen were arrested for alleged illegal fishing in Gasan, Marinduque on Friday. The suspects, whose identities were not immediately known, reportedly yielded illegal fishing equipment worth over P1 million, according to the Philippine Coast Guard Substation-Gasan.
- Dagupan illegal fish pens demolishedSapnu, Ric (Philippine Star Printing Co., Inc., 2022-11-16)The city government of Dagupan in Pangasinan province has started demolishing illegal fish pens and cages in three barangays that violated the local fishery code. Seven illegal and oversized fish pens and cages in the villages of Bonuan Gueset, Pugaro-Suit and Salapingao have been dismantled with the help of the Task Force Bantay Ilog, according to Patrick Dizon, officer-in-charge of city’s agriculture office.
- PCG, BFAR operations nab illegal fishersRecuerdo, Elmer (Concept & Information Group, Inc., 2024-01-19)The Philippine Coast Guard teamed up with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources to conduct patrols in Samar Sea to curb illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing activities in the rich fishing ground of Eastern Visayas. This week, the joint team apprehended two commercial fishing boats operating on the said water that were using the banned Modified Danish Seine locally known as hulbot-hulbot. BFAR regional information officer Christine Gresola said that the two commercial fishing vessels were found fishing on the municipal waters of Daram Island and Tarangnan town in Samar.
- Four arrested for illegal fishing in Panay watersBaylon, Jen (Panay News, Inc., 2024-02-17)Four fishermen were apprehended for engaging in illegal fishing activities in the waters off the coast of the municipality of Panay. The apprehended individuals, identified as “Ricardo”, “Jemrick, “Aladin”, and “Domante”, are residents of Carles, Iloilo. Members of the Philippine Coast Guard, Panay police, and the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) were conducting a routine seaborne patrol at about 9:20 a.m. on Feb. 15, when they caught the arrested persons in the act of engaging in “PAMO” fishing, which is a violation of Municipal Ordinance No. 03-02, Series of 2003.

The fishing boat’s personnel were unregistered and were using active fishing gear, in violation of Republic Act 8550, or the Fisheries Code of the Philippines, which is further amended by Republic Act 10654.
- Rampant illegal fishing in Quezon waters alarms group(Philippine Daily Inquirer, Inc., 2022-06-04)Rampant destructive fishing methods were again reported in the bays of Tayabas and Lamon in Quezon province, prompting an environmental group to urge the local government to curb the illegal activities. Jay Lim, project officer of Tanggol Kalikasan (TK), said the resurgence of illegal fishing activities was confirmed by a local fisherman in this city’s coastal village of Dalahican along the Tayabas Bay. TK is a public interest law office that advocates environmental protection. A local fisherman, who spoke on condition of anonymity, blamed the presence of large commercial fishing operations for the dwindling catch in the bay area.

- LGUs, Oceana beef up monitoring of municipal waters(Philippine Star Printing Co., Inc., 2020-03-15)International non-government organization Oceana and the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) have agreed to further strengthen the monitoring of municipal waters and protect them from illegal fishing. Oceana and LMP recently renewed their partnership. The management of municipal waters is devolved to coastal municipal and city local government units in accordance with the Local Government Code of the Philippines and the Fisheries Code of the Philippines.

In the opening of the 54th Fish Conservation Week Celebration in Tanza, Iloilo City on Oct 15, 2017, Aparri cited the importance of preserving, conserving and protecting the coastal and marine resources as the main source of livelihood of the coastal communities. The MOU with Mayor Siegfredo Betita of Carles and a representative of Mayor Milliard Villanueva of Concepcion, Iloilo seeks to create a joint task force that will address the rampant and unabated illegal, unreported fishing activities within the municipal waters.
