- PCG removes floating barrier in Bajo de MasinlocSadongdong, Martin (Manila Bulletin Publishing Corporation, 2023-09-27)The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), on orders of President Mrcos, removed the floating barrier installed by China in Bajo de Masinloc, also known as Scarborough or Panatag Shoal, near Zambales. National Task Force for West Philippine Sea (NTF-WPS) Chairman and National Security Adviser Eduardo Año instructed the PCG to execute a "special operation" to remove the floating barrier which obstructed the southeast entrance of Bajo de Masinloc and prevented Filipino fishermen from entering the shoal.
- Methods on how to clean up oil spill(Panay News, Inc., 2020-07-31)An explosion in Power Barge 102 triggered an oil spill in Iloilo Strait last July 3, 2020. It affected coastal areas in Bo. Obrero, Lapuz where it is located and has reached other communities and even Guimaras Island Province. Reports verified by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) had shown that 268,948.61 liters of bunker oil got spilled and about 95 percent of the oil had been recovered by the clean-up conducted by AC Energy Corporation. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) – Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) in Region 6 discussed with AC Energy the different mitigating measures and actions for efficient and fast clean-up operations.
- City drops oil spill suitCelebria, Limuel S. (Daily Guardian Multi-Media Services, Inc., 2020-07-23)Early this week, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas announced that “I am satisfied” with the AC Energy Philippines (ACEPh) response to the oil spill that occurred off the shores of Bo. Obrero following an explosion that spilled some 260,000 liters of bunker fuel into the waters. Moreover, Treñas also said the city government is scaling back on an earlier plan to file a suit for damages against the company on condition that ACEPh provide compensation to the victims. Among other things, Treñas appeared gratified by the company’s quick response to the accident, immediately taking care of the medical and other needs of the displaced residents to the extent of providing them shelter in three of Iloilo City’s top star hotels, after Covid 19 concerns were raised. ACEPh also went all out in its efforts to mitigate the impact of the oil spill on local communities and the environment, immediately undertaking procedures which led to the containment of the spill at 10PM on the same day, a company report said.
- Oil spill fouls 20 Guimaras coastal brgysSilubrico, Ruby (Panay News, Inc., 2020-07-07)Twenty coastal villages in the island province of Guimaras are affected by the oil spill from a power barge in Barangay Bo. Obrero, Lapuz, Iloilo City following an explosion Friday last week. Bunker fuel spilled from the power barge and littered the shores of the towns of Jordan and Buenavista, a report from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) of Guimaras showed. Barangays affected by the oil spill in Jordan town were Rizal, Hoskyn, Balcon Milleza, and Morobuan.
- No leak from stranded cargo ship in Antique(Panay News, Inc., 2018-09-06)The cargo ship that ran aground off the coast of Barangay 4 has no leakage, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG). M/V Star Liberty has been stuck some 300 meters from the shoreline of San Jose since Monday after strong wind and waves due to the southwest monsoon brought it there. PCG-Antique station commander Perlita Cinco said they have not seen fuel floating on seawaters as of Tuesday.
