  • Bataan fishermen receive livelihood aid from BFAR

    Members of the 1Bataan Pawikan Conservation Alliance Network (1PawiCAN) recently received livelihood assistance from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Central Luzon. The 1PawiCAN fisherfolk were awarded a total of 222 gill nets and 50 multifilament polyethylene nets for sustainable fishing.
  • BFAR hands Paombong 900K fingerlings

    The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources has sent 900,000 bangus fingerlings to aquafarm operators in Paombong, Bulacan. The fingerlings were sourced from the Saranggani Fry Finfish Hatchery in coordination with the BFAR. The distribution of the fingerlings was held at the Municipal covered court of Paombong. Local officials and members of the community took part in the occasion.
  • Marilao River gets 8K mangrove shoots

    Around 60 local fisherfolk along with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Central Luzon (BFAR3) and the local government unit here planted 8,000 mangrove shoots at the Marilao River. BFAR3 regional director Wilfredo Cruz revealed that the planting of 8,000 mangrove shoots is to improve the water quality of the Marilao River, adding that the mangrove propagules were planted in Barangay Nagbalon. Nagbalon Creek, a minor water channel of the said river, will have mangroves across the earthworks and will cover a hectare of mangrove rehabilitated area.
  • ₱12.3-M tilapia lost in Taal Lake fish kill: BFAR monitoring waters off 3 lakeshore towns

    At least 150 tons or P12.3 million worth of cultured tilapia turned belly-up in fish cages in Taal Lake in Batangas province due to a low level of dissolved oxygen in the water. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the local government of Laurel town in Batangas continued to closely monitor the remaining fish cages after the fish kill occurred in the villages of Gulod and Buso-buso in the last two days. As of Friday, provincial environment officer, Jose Elmer Bascos, said they had yet to dispose all of the dead fish as they needed a larger area to bury them.
  • BFAR R3 builds 22 fishports

    The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Central Luzon is constructing 22 community fishing ports worth P65 million throughout the region to help fishermen earn more for their families. The community fishing ports, each measuring about 1,000 square meters and amounting to P3 million, are located in Aurora, Zambales, and Bataan, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Central Luzon regional director Wilfredo Cruz said. Once finished, all the catches of the fishermen will be delivered to the ports for retailers and whole sellers at unified prices.
