- BFAR program targets ‘poorest of the poor’Domingo, Leander (The Manila Times Publishing Corporation, 2015-03-02)A total of 3,123 individuals in the Cagayan Valley region will be assisted under the poverty alleviation program of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR). According to BFAR, the figure represents 5.0 percent of the total registered fisherfolk in the region who will benefit from the program called Targeted Actions to Reduce Poverty and Generate Economic Transformation (Target). BFAR planning chief Angel Encarnacion said Target will put more emphasis to uplift the standard of living of marginal fishermen in the region.
- BFAR Region 2 offers scholarshipsDomingo, Leander C. (The Manila Times Publishing Corporation, 2015-02-08)The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) is offering an educational scholarship to assist the children of small-scale fisherfolk who are interested to pursue their college education. BFAR Region 2 Director Jovita Ayson said the bureau is offering at least 10 scholarship slots to qualified applicants for a four-year course degree in fisheries. She explained that the scholarship under the BFAR’s Fisheries Scholarship Program is offered to deserving and qualified fourth year high school students of the current year who must not be more than 20 years old.
