    The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) said shellfish samples collected in Central Luzon are free from the toxic red tide. Based on Shellfish Bulletin No. 26 Series of 2024 issued October 16, 2024, BFAR said the coastal waters of Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan and Zambales are safe from the water toxin. Alll types of shellfish gathered from these areas are safe for human consumption, the BFAR said.

    Bataan fishermen receive livelihood aid from BFAR

    Members of the 1Bataan Pawikan Conservation Alliance Network (1PawiCAN) recently received livelihood assistance from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Central Luzon. The 1PawiCAN fisherfolk were awarded a total of 222 gill nets and 50 multifilament polyethylene nets for sustainable fishing.

    Karding aftermath: Veggie, fish, rice prices to go up 20%

    Prices for vegetables, fish and even rice could shoot up by as much as 20 percent as a result of the damage wrought by super typhoon Karding, the Department of Agriculture (DA) warned Thursday. Agriculture Undersecretary Domingo Panganiban said in an interview that the country’s rice granary, Central Luzon, sustained severe damage during the typhoon, resulting in the loss of 20 percent of the standing crop.

    Marilao River gets 8K mangrove shoots

    Around 60 local fisherfolk along with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Central Luzon (BFAR3) and the local government unit here planted 8,000 mangrove shoots at the Marilao River. BFAR3 regional director Wilfredo Cruz revealed that the planting of 8,000 mangrove shoots is to improve the water quality of the Marilao River, adding that the mangrove propagules were planted in Barangay Nagbalon. Nagbalon Creek, a minor water channel of the said river, will have mangroves across the earthworks and will cover a hectare of mangrove rehabilitated area.

    Agri chief assures Metro food supplies ‘more than enough'

    The Department of Agriculture (DA) on Friday assured the public that the community quarantine had not affected food supplies for Metro Manila. “We have determined that there is enough supply of all basic goods that can be traded in Metro Manila,” Agriculture Secretary William Dar told a news briefing in Quezon City. Fish demand is at 8,000 MT per week, with supply at 10,264 MT per week. The stocks come from Ilocos, Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) Central Luzon, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and Philippine Fisheries Development Authority-Navotas.
