- DENR demolition team sets crosshairs on 492 'illegal' aquaculture pens in CaviteMayuga, Jonathan (Philippine Business Daily Mirror Publishing, Inc., 2021-09-21)A total of 492 illegal aquaculture structures that include fish cages, pens, traps, or baklads, and oyster and mussel farms in Manila Bay area have so far been marked for demolition in four coastal towns of Cavite, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said. These include a total of 333 structures in Cavite City and159 in Kawit and Noveleta.

Gabino Ramon Mejia, head of plant operations of AC Energy Philippines, said they comprised the first batch of households who could go home following a risk assessment conducted by several stakeholders. AC Energy Philippines owns Power Barge 102 stationed at Bo. Obrero, Lapuz which exploded on July 3, 2020 and caused an oil spill.

Iloilo Vice-Governor Christine Garin and PENRO DENR-Iloilo Raul Lotilla also graced the opening ceremonies. An exhibit features the environment conservation and protection initiatives of the Province of Iloilo, DENR and its partners, including Central Philippine University, University of the Philippines Visayas, SEAFDEC, USAID, Department of Education, Iloilo Watershed Management Council, Metro Iloilo Water District, among others.
