Bohol Gov. Aris Aumentado issued Executive Order (EO) 10, stating the activity in Alburquerque is being questioned as the whale watching site is reportedly located within the Albuquerque-Loay-Loboc protected area. The EO said that whale watching and interaction activities in all three areas are sanctioned by their respective local government units, but have no clearance from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Francis Tolentino is seeking a Senate investigation into the alleged cyanide fishing carried out in parts of the ocean within Philippine territory, particularly near Panatag (Scarborough) Shoal, which he branded as “environmental terrorism.” Tolentino said the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), Convention on Biological Diversity and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species could be used as bases in the filing of complaints against those involved in cyanide fishing.
- Boat hit by whale shark sinksMacairan, Evelyn (Philippine Star Printing Co., Inc., 2024-02-02)Two fishermen were rescued when their boat sank after it was hit by a whale shark early yesterday in Romblon. Edgardo Lozano, 60, and Harry Lozano, 51, were fishing in the waters off Barangay Cantagda in Cajidiocan town when their boat was struck by the shark, according to the Philippine Coast Guard. The PCG sub-station in Cajidiocan dispatched a search and rescue team after receiving a call about the incident.

On Monday, National Security Council (NSC) Spokesman Jonathan Malaya told a news briefing that the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has been ordered to finish its post-mission reports and submit all the evidence it has gathered to the country’s West Philippine Sea task force. “We at the National Security Council are alarmed by this development that is happening, but we have to be careful also, so we have to validate and investigate [the use of cyanide by Chinese fishermen].”

This week, the joint team apprehended two commercial fishing boats operating on the said water that were using the banned Modified Danish Seine locally known as hulbot-hulbot. BFAR regional information officer Christine Gresola said that the two commercial fishing vessels were found fishing on the municipal waters of Daram Island and Tarangnan town in Samar.
- Oil siphoning from Terra Nova stopped due to EntengMacairan, Evelyn (Philippine Star Printing Co., Inc., 2024-09-03)Rough sea conditions due to Tropical Storm Enteng prompted the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to stop the oil siphoning operations on the sunken motor tanker Terra Nova yesterday. “The contracted salvor, Harbor Star, secured all siphoning lines and containment equipment, closed all hot taps and postponed the transfer of oily waste,” the PCG said.
