Emma Ballad, BFAR Region 2 senior staff, said personnel of the fisheries bureau here have met with their local government unit counterparts and local chief executives for the orientation on Fisheries Administrative Order (FAO) 263.
- BFAR prohibits 'Ludong' fishing for 45 daysDomingo, Leander (The Manila Times Publishing Corporation, 2017-09-26)The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Region 2 has warned fisherfolk against catching Ludong or Lobed river mullet during the closed season starting in October. Arsenio Bañares, BFAR-Region 2 Fisheries Management, Regulatory and Enforcement Division chief, said some 40 fisherfolk designated as Bantay Laot members were trained to help implement the Bureau’s Administrative Circular (BAC) 247 declaring a closed season on the catching of Ludong effective October 1 to November 15 and report violations. ”The designation of fisherfolk, majority of whom belong to the indigenous peoples group, as Bantay Laot members is part of the nationwide program to deter illegal fishing activities and protect threatened marine and aquatic species in municipal waters,” Bañares said.
- CV BFAR opens scholarship slotsEbreo, Ben M. (Philippine Manila Standard Publishing, Inc., 2018-01-10)Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Cagayan Valley has opened scholarship slots for secondary students this year. Dr. Ronaldo Libunao, BFAR regional scholarship coordinator, said 23 slots have been opened under their Fisheries Industry Leaders Grant and Fisherfolk Children Educational Grant. The FILG is open to senior high school graduate or graduating students not more than 25 years of age, have not earned any units in college, and must belong to the top 10 rank in the graduating class.
- BFAR program targets ‘poorest of the poor’Domingo, Leander (The Manila Times Publishing Corporation, 2015-03-02)A total of 3,123 individuals in the Cagayan Valley region will be assisted under the poverty alleviation program of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR). According to BFAR, the figure represents 5.0 percent of the total registered fisherfolk in the region who will benefit from the program called Targeted Actions to Reduce Poverty and Generate Economic Transformation (Target). BFAR planning chief Angel Encarnacion said Target will put more emphasis to uplift the standard of living of marginal fishermen in the region.
- BFAR Region 2 offers scholarshipsDomingo, Leander C. (The Manila Times Publishing Corporation, 2015-02-08)The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) is offering an educational scholarship to assist the children of small-scale fisherfolk who are interested to pursue their college education. BFAR Region 2 Director Jovita Ayson said the bureau is offering at least 10 scholarship slots to qualified applicants for a four-year course degree in fisheries. She explained that the scholarship under the BFAR’s Fisheries Scholarship Program is offered to deserving and qualified fourth year high school students of the current year who must not be more than 20 years old.
