    Good news for fisherfolks in this province. After several months, the coastal waters in Panay, President Roxas, and Pilar towns are finally free from paralytic shellfish poison (PSP) or toxic red tide, according to Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Shellfish Bulletin No. 06-2023.

    The coastal waters of Roxas City and the towns of Pilar and Panay in this province remain positive for paralytic shellfish poison (PSP), according to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR). Shellfish samples collected from there still have PSP, or red tide toxin, BFAR stated in Shellfish Advisory No. 14 released yesterday.

    The coastal waters of Roxas City and the towns of Pilar and Panay in this province remain positive for paralytic shellfish poison (PSP), according to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR). Shellfish samples collected from there still have PSP, or red tide toxin, BFAR stated in Shellfish Advisory No. 14 released yesterday. The PSP toxin level in shellfish samples collected from Roxas City was 87.11 µgSTXeq/100g of shellfish meat, while 275.56 µgSTXeq/100g of shellfish meat in Pilar and 194.78-206.86 µgSTXeq/100g of shellfish meat in Panay.
  • Iloilo eyes collab with SEAFDEC to maximize aquaculture production

    Iloilo's Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. is eyeing an institutional partnership with the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center-Aquaculture Department (SEAFDEC-AQD) to maximize the province’s aquaculture production. Defensor was the keynote speaker during the recent kickoff of the 50th anniversary celebration of SEAFDEC-AQD in Tigbauan town. The governor, SEAFDEC-AQD chief Dan Baliao, Agriculture Senior Undersecretary Domingo Panganiban, and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region 6 director Remia Aparri also led the inauguration of two new facilities – the Black Tiger Shrimp Broodstock and Milkfish Larval Rearing.
