    ₱900-M PHL shrimp exports to US may be affected by ban

    Nearly a billion pesos worth of shrimp exports to the United States are at risk due to the US’s temporary ban on the importation of shrimp and shrimp products from the Philippines, data processed by the Department of Trade and Industry-Export Marketing Bureau (DTI-EMB) showed. Last year, Philippine shrimp exports to the US reached nearly P900 million. In five years, the highest was recorded in 2019 when it hit more than P2 billion. In an advisory published on DTI-EMB’s website last week, the export marketing arm of DTI revealed that the US temporarily prohibited importation of shrimp caught using commercial fishing technology that “adversely” affects turtles such as the use of Turtle Excluder Devices.

    Projects on shrimp and 'ludong' set to boost PH inland aquatic production and management

    Iloilo eyes collab with SEAFDEC to maximize aquaculture production

    Iloilo's Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. is eyeing an institutional partnership with the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center-Aquaculture Department (SEAFDEC-AQD) to maximize the province’s aquaculture production. Defensor was the keynote speaker during the recent kickoff of the 50th anniversary celebration of SEAFDEC-AQD in Tigbauan town. The governor, SEAFDEC-AQD chief Dan Baliao, Agriculture Senior Undersecretary Domingo Panganiban, and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region 6 director Remia Aparri also led the inauguration of two new facilities – the Black Tiger Shrimp Broodstock and Milkfish Larval Rearing.

    Fish output slightly down to 972,910 MT in Q3 – PSA

    The country's fish production slightly decreased in the third quarter of the year as output from commercial and municipal fisheries declined, the Philippines Statistics Authority (PSA) said. In its latest Fisheries Situation Report, the agency said total fish output stood at 972, 910 metric tons (MT)in the July-September period, just 0.4 percent lower from a year-ago level. Fish yielded by commercial fisheries dropped by 1.60 percent to 232, 810 MT from 236, 590 MT incurred in the same period last year.
