  • LGUs told to protect flora, fauna in Iloilo

    Manila graced the 3rd Iloilo Biodiversity and Watershed Week opening ceremonies, Nov. 21, 2016 at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol. The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office led by lawyer Arturo Cangrejo led the celebration. Iloilo Vice-Governor Christine Garin and PENRO DENR-Iloilo Raul Lotilla also graced the opening ceremonies. An exhibit features the environment conservation and protection initiatives of the Province of Iloilo, DENR and its partners, including Central Philippine University, University of the Philippines Visayas, SEAFDEC, USAID, Department of Education, Iloilo Watershed Management Council, Metro Iloilo Water District, among others.
  • 7 LGUs to get P1-M fishery projects

    Seven towns and cities in Region 6 are entitled to receive P1 million worth of projects from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) for registering the highest number of municipal fisherfolk. The seven LGUs from Negros Occidental, Guimaras and Iloilo are included in the 100 cities and towns which topped the Municipal Fisherfolk Registration or FishR. Fish-R is BFAR’s year-long program designed to enhance, fast track and complete the Municipal Fisherfolk Registry of coastal Local Government Units (LGUs) nationwide in accordance to RA 8550 or the Philippine Fisheries Code.
  • Declare Visayan Sea as marine reserve-guvs

    Governors in the Visayas will ask the incoming administration to proclaim the Visayan Sea a marine reserve. According to Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr., the declaration will further protect and preserve the rich fishing ground.
