  • LGUs, Oceana beef up monitoring of municipal waters

    International non-government organization Oceana and the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) have agreed to further strengthen the monitoring of municipal waters and protect them from illegal fishing. Oceana and LMP recently renewed their partnership. The management of municipal waters is devolved to coastal municipal and city local government units in accordance with the Local Government Code of the Philippines and the Fisheries Code of the Philippines.
  • Oceana sues gov't over vessel monitoring system

    Oceana Philippines is set to sue the government for failure to install vessel monitoring for all commercial fishing vessels. The company said it would proceed with its plan to file a continuing mandamus against the Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources despite the latter's issuance of Fisheries Administrative Order 260. Continuing mandamus is a writ issued by a court in an environmental case directing any agency to perform an act decreed by final judgement is fully satisfied.
