    Boracay's restored wetland transferred to DENR, LGU

    Timely to the celebration of Environment Month this June, the Aboitiz Group has turned over the rehabilitated Wetland No. 4 to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) as part of its commitment to preserve and protect biodiversity and surroundings on Boracay Island. Now known as the Balabag Wetland Park, the one-hectare lagoon area in Barangay Balabag has been transformed into a linear urban park. “The Aboitiz Group’s contribution to Boracay’s rehabilitation is part of our commitment to co-create safe, empowered, and sustainable communities.     Duterte creates Manila Bay Task Force

    President Duterte has ordered the creation of the Manila Bay Task Force that will expedite the rehabilitation, restoration, and conservation of the coastal and marine ecosystem of the Manila Bay. In Administrative Order No. 16 signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea on February 19, the secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) was designated as chair of the Task Force. The secretaries of the Interior (DILG) and Tourism (DOT) departments will serve as vice-chairpersons. The DENR is tasked to strictly enforce the Philippine Clean Water Act on the conduct of containment, removal, and clean operations, and the exercise of supervision and control on all aspects of water quality management.

    NEDA: DU30 right to close Boracay: Army after ‘minor incidents’ – commander

    The government was right to temporarily close off Boracay to tourists, according to the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA). President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the shutdown of the island resort to pave the way for rehabilitation. He approved the recommendation of the Interior, Tourism and Environment departments to close Boracay for six months starting April 26.

    Boracay, which is currently undergoing rehabilitation and is set for its soft opening on October 26, was voted as second and described as “close to a tropical idyll as you’ll find in Southeast Asia with gentle coastlines and made-for-Instagram sunsets.” “We would like to take this opportunity to tell our tourists to manage their expectations on Boracay’s soft opening. We also encourage them to be mindful and responsible tourists of the island,” Secretary Romulo-Puyat added. Condé Nast also named Palawan as Asia’s third top island stating “Palawan is home to the otherworldly Puerto Princesa Subterranean River, a UNESCO World Heritage Site worth the trip alone.”
