- SEAFDEC backs PH gov't bid to put up feed mill plants(Metropolitan Global PH Communications Co., 2023-01-29)SEAFDEC/AQD has pledged its support to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) to construct commercial-scale aquaculture feed mills for cost-effective feed in strategic locations throughout Panay Island, as well as Luzon and Mindanao in the Philippines. “Development of aquaculture feed mill plants is one of BFAR’s approved projects and is set for implementation this year,” according to BFAR-6 director Remia Aparri. The project is under the National Fisheries Program. BFAR tapped the research center’s technical expertise, particularly on site selection, during a meeting between SEAFDEC/AQD and BFAR on 10 Jan. 2023. Chief Dan Baliao, Dr. Roger Edward Mamauag, SEAFDEC/AQD Feasibility Study team, Aparri, and BFAR-6 staff were present.
- P10 billion eyed for fisheries program(The Manila Times Publishing Corporation, 2021-10-28)The Department of Agriculture (DA) on Wednesday said it is in the final stage of getting the approval to implement the Fisheries and Coastal Resiliency (FishCoRe) Project worth $200 million (P10 billion) funded by the World Bank (WB). In a statement, the DA said the FishCoRe project will benefit about 500,000 fisherfolk and stakeholders in the fisheries and aquaculture sector or the so-called blue economy. The seven-year project, which is the first WB-funded project to be implemented with the DA's Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), primarily aims to support the scaling-up and modernization of the Philippine capture fisheries and aquaculture industry. This will be done through the provision of technical support and innovation, access to modern and resilient fisheries infrastructure and post-harvest facilities, and promotion of efficient connectivity and product value addition, among other initiatives
- DA-BFAR project opens wider access to skills and knowledge in fish farming(Philippine Business Daily Mirror Publishing, Inc., 2021-02-08)Interested groups or individuals may now avail of the Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources’ (DA-BFAR) collection of aquaculture technology as the agency made it more accessible during its virtual launching on Monday, February 8, 2021, in Quezon City. A component of the “Aqua Negosyo Para sa Pilipino” initiative of the DA-BFAR, the project emphasizes that the key to successful agribusiness, including aquaculture enterprise, is acquiring the right knowledge and technical skills. It also integrates the One DA approach to strategic communication, while hitting another of the agriculture department’s key initiative of jump-starting agribusiness and spurring entrepreneurial and economic development in the countryside through the establishment of Agro-Industrial Business Corridors (ABC).
