  • BFAR hands Paombong 900K fingerlings

    The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources has sent 900,000 bangus fingerlings to aquafarm operators in Paombong, Bulacan. The fingerlings were sourced from the Saranggani Fry Finfish Hatchery in coordination with the BFAR. The distribution of the fingerlings was held at the Municipal covered court of Paombong. Local officials and members of the community took part in the occasion.
  • Bataan fisherfolk livelihood beefed up

    The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Central Luzon (BFAR3) has provided payaos to fisherfolk in the province as part of the agency’s thrust to develop the fishing industry in the area. In coordination with Bataan Provincial Fisheries Office (PFO) Harlyn Recabar-Purzuelo, Municipal Agriculture’s Officer (MAO) Nonato Manalastas said that two fisherfolk associations were given three sets of payaos which can help fisherfolk here catch bigger fish.
  • Marilao River gets 8K mangrove shoots

    Around 60 local fisherfolk along with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Central Luzon (BFAR3) and the local government unit here planted 8,000 mangrove shoots at the Marilao River. BFAR3 regional director Wilfredo Cruz revealed that the planting of 8,000 mangrove shoots is to improve the water quality of the Marilao River, adding that the mangrove propagules were planted in Barangay Nagbalon. Nagbalon Creek, a minor water channel of the said river, will have mangroves across the earthworks and will cover a hectare of mangrove rehabilitated area.
  • Oplan Isda' yields seafood produce

    The Provincial Fisheries Office (PFO) here announced that at least half a ton of seafood was bought by the fisherfolk cooperatives of Tarlac from another fisherfolk group — Bulacan’s Nagkakaisang Samahan ng Mangingisda sa Bayan ng Paombong (NASAMAPA). PFO Tarlac chief Lanie Lamyong said that the trading of “ready for vending” seafood produce was through the efforts of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Central Luzon’s (BFAR3) Fisheries Post-Harvest and Monitoring Division (FPHMD) and her office. “The procurement of the seafood produce is one of the many commercial links between fisherfolk cooperatives from other provinces,” Lamyong said, adding that it is patterned to BFAR’s “Oplan Isda” program which is a marketing intervention to increase fisherfolk income by strengthening relations among fisherfolk cooperatives.
  • Proposed Sual fish port inspected

    The Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) recently conducted a site visit in this town for the planned construction of an improved PFDA-Sual Fish Port (PFDA-SFP). PFDA General Manager Atty. Glen A. Pangapalan revealed that it is one of the agency’s ongoing flagship projects and is under the national government’s “Build, Build, Build” program. Pangapalan led the site visit along with Department of Agriculture Undersecretary for Agri-Industrialization and for Fisheries Cheryl Marie Natividad-Caballero.
