    BFAR: WV coastal waters free from red tide toxin

    The Dec. 5 bulletin showed that there are no red tide toxin in the waters of New Washington, Altavas and Batan in Aklan, Gigantes Group of Islands in Carles, Iloilo, and President Roxas, Pilar, Panay, Roxas City, Ivisan, and Sapian in Capiz. But BFAR warned residents of Palawan, Bataan, Masbate, Eastern Samar, and Western Samar of gathering and eating shellfishes. The bulletin showed that there are high levels of the red tide toxin these areas.

    New community fish landing centers in Aklan
    Zabal, Boy Ryan (Panay News, Inc., 2018-06-25)
    Two community fish landing centers (CFLCs) were turned over in the towns of Tangalan and Numancia in Aklan. The CFLCs are under the Targeted Action to Reduce Poverty and Generate Economic Transformation program of the Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR). The program is aimed at helping fishing communities by helping to increase their income.
